National Collegiate Advisory Board Career Athletes and Top Athletic Administrators Lead Career Education Initiatives
Nate Althouse, PhD Penn State University - Academic Advisor/Career Development Coordinator Dr. Nate Althouse is the Coordinator of Career Development for student-athletes at Penn State University. He is also the advisor for the men's and women's track and field and cross country teams, the men's and women's tennis teams, and the softball team. He is responsible for coordinating career development services for student-athletes, including corporate recruiting sessions, resume book publication, career counseling intake interviews, developing the freshman seminar career curriculum, and publishing the Penn State Student-Athlete Career Development Handbook. Nate also teaches a course on student-athlete holistic development and serves as liaison to the LGBTA Student Resource Center at Penn State.
Prior to his time at Penn State he served as a visiting professor of Counselor Education at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. He completed his Ph.D. in counselor education in 2007.
As a basketball coach, Nate compiled a career record of 138-45, leading Penns Valley High School in Spring Mills, PA to the first two league championships in school history. As an administrator and coach at the John Amaechi Basketball Centre in Manchester, England he led the Manchester Magic U20 basketball team to a National Cup Championship and served as an assistant coach for the U18 national championship team.
As an athlete, Nate was a three-year letterwinner in basketball at Penn State and an Academic All-Big Ten selection. In his free time he enjoys photography, graphic design, and following the Philadelphia sports teams. He resides in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania with his wife, Sasha and his son, Spencer.
Ashlee Anderson Boise State University - Director of Student-Athlete Development Ashlee Anderson was named Director of Student-Athlete Development for Boise State University in 2010. Ashlee directs the BroncoLIFE program and is responsible for the organization and administration of students services related to career development, service, leadership, wellness, and personal development for 450 student-athletes.
Prior to joining Bronco Athletics, Ashlee served as Assistant Director for Life Skills at University of Washington, providing programming oversight for over 650 student-athletes and administrative support for Student-Athlete Academic Services. She developed the Developing Athletes through Wellness, Growth and Service (DAWGS) Program, launching new initiatives such as SAAC, Peer Advocate Group, First Year Seminar, Financial Skills Class, Dinner with a Dawg, Diva Dawgs, and Coins 4 Kids. Ashlee began her career in athletics as an Academic Advisor for the Huskies.
Ashlee is a recent graduate of the NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement. She was appointed as faculty for the N4A Professional Development Institute in 2007 after completing the PDI Leader & Manager track in 2006. Ashlee serves on the N4A Life Skills Committee and former Restructuring Committee. She is a recipient of the N4A Professional Promise Award.
Ashlee graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Washington State University. She went on to earn a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Washington. Ashlee serves on the board for Special Olympics of Idaho and supports the local chapters of Make-A-Wish, First Candle, Gamma Phi Beta, and PEO. Ashlee enjoys life in her hometown of Boise, Idaho, with her husband, Jeff, and two sons.
Ashley Armstrong University of California, Los Angeles - Director of Student-Athlete Development Ashley Armstrong is in her sixth year at the University of California, Los Angeles. As the Director of Student-Athlete Development, she works with all student-athletes and coaches to provide Life Skills programming which includes personal growth, career development, and community outreach. She serves as the advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Student-Athlete Mentors program, oversees the Wooden Academy for leadership development, and chairs the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Health and Wellness Committee. In addition, Armstrong serves as a consultant for the student-athlete affairs group at the NCAA where she is responsible for writing curriculum, and training campus administrators and coaches to facilitate the annual NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum.
Prior to joining the Bruin staff, Armstrong served as an Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Louisville where her responsibilities included Life Skills programming, marketing, championships, and compliance. She started her career as an academic counselor for the women's athletics department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Armstrong has been a facilitator for NCAA National and Regional Leadership Conferences, CHAMPS/Life Skills Continuing Education Conferences, NCAA Diversity Education workshops, Pac-10 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Leadership Forum, and workshops on several other campuses. She was a member of the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Advisory Team, and was a 2009 graduate of the Sports Management Institute's executive program.
A native of Ventura, California, Armstrong was a member of the women's volleyball team at the University of California, Davis, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. She earned a Master of Science in sport administration from the University of Tennessee.
Tierra Barber Baylor University - Director of Student-Athlete Development Originally from Midland Texas, Tierra Barber was named the Director of Student-Athlete Development at Baylor University in 2008. She is a 2002 graduate and former track and field student-athlete for the Bears and received her Master's of Science in Education degree in 2004 while serving as a graduate assistant for the athletic department as an academic counselor in Student-Athlete Services. Prior to her current position, Tierra worked full-time as the Student-Athlete Services Study Hall Supervisor and Tutor Coordinator. She then went on to serve as an academic advisor for the track and field team at Baylor.
As the Director of Student-Athlete Development, Tierra has increased her involvement with N4A and has served on the Membership and Life Skills Committees. She is currently the Chair of the Like Skills Committee and has helped plan several Regional N4A meetings.
Other professional experiences while at Baylor include teaching in the Health, Human Performance and Recreation department as an adjunct professor, being a personal trainer, BearFit Circuit Coordinator, and an advisor to the Big 12 Council on Black Student Leadership Group.
Tierra is a 2011 Graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute, 2010 N4A Professional Promise Recipient, NCAA Effective Facilitator Training, NCAA Careers In Sports Forum Facilitator, Big 12 Leadership Summit Facilitator, Big 12 Diversity Program Participate, CHAMPS/Life Skills Conference Participant, APPLY Conference Panelist, and ACE Certified Personal Trainer.
Tami Drummond University of Massachusetts, Amherst - Assistant Director of Academic Support Services
Tami Drummond has been the Assistant Director of Academic Support Services at the University of Massachusetts since 1997. Her primary sports include Football, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Swimming, and Women's Tennis. Tami has worked in all areas of student-athlete services over her tenure at UMass.
Tami also serves as the Life Skills Coordinator, which entails teaching a 1-credit freshman seminar called "Your Winning Season" as well as organizing educational and career development events throughout the year. A 1992 graduate of UMass with a bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Tami also earned her master's degree from UMass in 1996 in Higher Education. Prior to her current position, she worked as a Sports Publicity Assistant at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, and for the Springfield Indians, an AHL hockey team in Springfield, MA.
Kim Lambert University of Missouri - Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development Kim Lambert enters her 10th year with the University Of Missouri Department Of Athletics and is in her third year as Assistant Athletics Director for Life Skills. Lambert was promoted to her current position in August 2009, after spending two years as the Director of Life Skills.
In her current role, Lambert oversees the entire Life Skills program along with two graduate assistants. She is responsible for working with all of the student athletes on their community service outreach, personal development and their career development. She also oversees the Tigers for Tomorrow Career Development Program and the Mizzou Athletics Career Center.
Lambert graduated with her undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Missouri and was also a swimmer for the Tigers from 1997-2001. She then went on to obtain her Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration, also from the University of Missouri.
Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Lambert went to work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as their District Director in Columbia. In 2002, she returned to her alma mater as a graduate assistant in the Total Person Program and became an academic coordinator in October 2003. As an academic coordinator, she worked with the sports of baseball, swimming and diving, gymnastics, and tennis while coordinating a variety of scholarships, honors, and awards for the student-athlete population.
Brandon Morris Saint Louis University - Assistant Athletics Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services Brandon Morris, M.Ed is the Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Academic Services at Saint Louis University. At SLU, he is responsible for academic advising and programming, directly overseeing Billiken men's and women's basketball, soccer and baseball, while supervising the day-to-day operations of Athletic Academic Support and the academic progress of nearly 300 student athletes.
Morris serves as the administrator for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and handles the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs and career development programming for Billiken athletics. In addition, he currently serves on institutional committees for Hazing Prevention, African-American Male Scholars Initiative; Saint Louis University's NCAA Choices Grant and teaches the student-athlete section for the University's first year experience course, University 101.
In 2009, Morris was selected to facilitate at the NCAA's National Student-Athlete Development Conference, where he focused on helping student-athletes understand they can be agents of change in the world. He also speaks to St. Louis area youth as a part of his "Be More" foundation. His foundation works to provide structure for character and life skill development for under-privileged students, while focusing on the importance of education.
A former men's basketball student-athlete, Morris graduated from Drury University in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology and sport-management. In 2007 he earned his master's degree in Higher and Post-Secondary Education from Arizona State before joining Billiken Athletics. Morris is currently working toward a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership & Higher Education at Saint Louis University.
Angie Seabeck Kent State University - Director of Student-Athlete Development Angie Seabeck is entering her sixth year at Kent State University. As the Director of Student-Athlete Development, she is responsible for coordination of the life skills programming, serves as faculty advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and director of the student-athlete leadership academy. She also serves as professor for the freshman student-athlete orientation course, Winning Combinations, and the senior student-athlete course, Life After Sport. Her responsibilities extend into the academic realm as well, as she serves as academic counselor for baseball, softball, women's soccer, women's gymnastics, women's basketball and wrestling. Seabeck has also been a facilitator for the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum for the past two years
Prior to joining the Golden Flashes staff, Seabeck served as an academic advisor in the College of Arts & Sciences at KSU. She also was the Local Champion Coordinator for the All-American Soap Box Derby for 7 years.
Seabeck graduated from The University of Akron with her Bachelor of Arts degree in fashion merchandising. She went on to complete her graduate degree in higher education administration, also from The University of Akron.
Penny Semania University of Pittsburgh - Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Life Entering his 7th year working for the University of Pittsburgh's Athletic Department, Penny oversees the daily operations of the Panther Game Plan (PGP) Life Skills program for student-athletes. The PGP provides programs, workshops and resources to assist student-athletes with preparation for success both in college and then subsequently life after college.
In his time at Pitt, Penny has helped Pitt's Athletic Department gain a national reputation in life skills programming. Penny has served as a team facilitator for numerous NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs life skills conferences and workshops, and is a member of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Board. Penny also serves as a national facilitator for the National Consortium for Academic and Sports (NCAS), providing programs and services focusing on life skills topics. Always staying close to the action, Penny was the sideline reporter for the Pitt football team working with Pittsburgh sports legend, Bill Hillgrove and Panther great Bill Fralic.
A Utica, NY native, Penny earned a full athletic scholarship to Pitt, where he was a four-year letter winner on the Panthers' varsity football team. A 2003 graduate, he earned his degree in anthropology with related areas in sociology and performance.
In his spare time, Penny is a big brother for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh. He also serves on the board for two non-profit organizations, one that focuses on providing services to single mothers and the other encourages young professionals to get involved with their community. Penny received the Alumni of Distinction Award from his hometown and was named one of Pittsburgh's 50.
