Career Athletes to Extend Careers, Internships to Student-Athletes

NCAA Legislation allows student-athletes FULL Access to the largest network of athletes and employers

May 9, 2011 - Effective immediately, current athletes across all NCAA divisions can now apply directly to thousands of careers and internships offered at Careerathletes.com. For the last 13 years, Career Athletes has been the most relied upon network for college athletes, coaches, athletic departments, and national employers.   The Kansas City based company plans to extend over 140,000 national career opportunities to its community members including current athletes in 2011.

University of Nebraska, a leading athletic department among student-athlete development initiatives, is one of the many hundreds of NCAA institutions positively affected by the new ruling.  "Anytime we can do more, better, and beyond for our student-athletes here at Nebraska, it is worth it - 10 times over.  We have an extraordinary staff in the area of student-athlete development that do just that, and are also just as diligent to provide balancing resources like Career Athletes here on our campus.  The new legislation is a no-brainer, and as a former student-athlete, I'm proud to see our current athletes have continued support from the NCAA to help their efforts in preparing for life after collegiate athletics," said Laure Ragoss, Associate Director of Compliance at Nebraska.

Career Athletes is home to more than 175 colleges and universities with a growing number of athletic programs joining each month.  Individual online community networks are powered by Career Athletes at campuses including Boise State, BYU, Cal-Berkeley, Florida, Hawaii, LSU, Texas A&M, The Ohio State, UCLA, UMASS, and Vanderbilt to name a few.  There is also a large representation of member schools from NCAA Division I Athletic Conferences like the A-10, Big 12, Big Sky, PAC-10, SEC, and WAC among many others.

History has shown that most athletic departments would like to have a customized career plan for its student-athletes, but maintaining academic and athletic success absorbs a great deal of time and funding, making this venture less possible.  According to DJ Washington, this is when Career Athletes is called upon the most.  "Our school partners want to show their very own commitment to helping athletes at their campuses, and Career Athletes simply makes this personalized effort possible without draining the energy and attention away from today's busy athletic administrator," explained Washington, Vice President at Career Athletes.  "During an economic downturn, we have continued to offer more while costing less, and instantaneously became an option that schools could not afford to miss."

The career services conglomerate has educated over 275,000 student-athletes on campus through its seminar program conducted at more than 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide.  Student-athletes participating in the campus seminar program are also able to join the Career Athletes community and begin making connections with teammates, alumni and mentors within their school's career network.
