The Performance Engineer in the Next-Gen NAS Engineering team will work closely with all NAS Engineering Development Groups to improve Next-Gen Network Server Performance. The Performance Engineer role focuses on characterizing, analyzing and ultimately improving Next-Gen Network Server performance.
Initial assignments will include test creation, execution and result analysis.These tests will automatically run as part of the nightly build process.Nightly performance results will be analyzed for regressions and candidate will work with appropriate development groups to characterize and remedy the discovered problems.Additional responsibilities will include interfacing with the NAS Performance Engineering team to assist in the more traditional product performance testing as the Next-Gen project matures in its development cycle.
The candidate should be comfortable working with hardware and have experience creating shell scripts in various languages.Evident interest and some experience in kernel-level programming is desired, but not required.Previous experience (including class work) in performance related problem solving is preferred.This candidate needs strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to discern requirements from various individuals (management, engineers, and partners) and manage the relationship with them. Occasional travel may be required. The position is one of individual contributor, but will need to interface with a variety of people in a highly cross functional environment.
Requirements:
Knowledge of C and C++
Strong UNIX bash/sh and Perl Programming, and related debug skills
Experience in basic Unix system administration
Knowledge of the TCP/IP, CIFS, NFS, and SAN protocols
Experience with using networks and network file systems
Strong verbal and written communication skills
BSCS or BSEE (or equivalent), and 5-10 years of systems level work experience
